Ha ha. First non Supernatural fic up here. This here is a fanfic for the book Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson.
I must admit that I did steal a line from a song and used it in this. "She wakes up, rage and grace." is from the song Fix You by The Offspring.
I also admit that I did little to no editing for this.
Also, I'm like....99% sure that I got Philip's name wrong.
And. Last note: all (except like 2) of the events of this are canonical. I just...changed them a bit. This is basically...from when Wendy comes till the end of the book, all smashed up into a oneshot.
-------
Tiger Lily stands in her clay hut, unmoving. The only light comes from the dim shine of the moon and the bright, but small, glow coming from me. Tiger Lily’s black hair falls in long waves past her shoulders, and the two crow feathers that normally adorn her hair lie on the shelf next to where I am seated. Moving slightly so she can see the feathers, she stares at them for a few seconds before she reaches up and begins braiding her hair. Her fingers move swiftly and surely through her fingers, and by the end, her black hair is in a braid. But it is unlike any braid I’ve ever seen in her hair before. They are usually messy and loose, strands falling out, but this one is neat, nearing perfect. The Sky Eater grabs the feathers and sticks them in her hair then.
Making sure that her hatchet is securely attached to her belt, but not secure enough that it can’t easily be brought out, Tiger Lily glanced down at the shelf below me, where I know Tik Tok’s raspberry dress lies, neatly folded.
The raven-haired girl turns then, exiting the hut. She’s left me behind, but catching up will be no problem for me. Being a fairy, I easily catch up to her. Landing on her shoulder, I kneel down, holding onto one of the tassels upon her dress so I don’t fall off as she runs. She’s heading down the small path that leads to the lost boys hideout. The old wooden bridge, where she’d agreed to meet Peter that night.
The wall blocking me from seeing her thoughts goes down momentarily, and I am able to catch a glimpse of what is running through her mind that second. Tik Tok is on her mind. Sorrow envelopes the young fifteen year-old as she thinks of her foster father. Anger at Philip, the man who had driven Tik Tok to throw himself in the water and kill himself, soon drown out the sorrow and her guard is up again. But not before I am able to sense her guilt. Guilt over losing the clock, over Peter Pan, over everything. I am once more left with no way to see her feelings.
Tiger Lily slows as we reach the bridge. Peter Pan, leader of the lost boys is there. But he’s not alone. Next to him stands a very pale blonde girl. I immediately dislike her, knowing that she’ll mean trouble for everyone in Neverland.
“Tiger Lily!” Peter exclaims as he rushes forward to embrace the Sky Eater. Tiger Lily hugs him back before pulling away to peer around at the strange girl.
Staring at her for a few seconds, taking in the pale skin, the blonde curls, the innocent blue eyes, the neat dress, Tiger Lily soon looks back at Peter, silently questioning who this strange girl is.
Peter laughs. “This, love, is Wendy. She’s an Englander. But don’t worry; you’ll get along with her fantastically.” He says this all while looking at Wendy, and Tiger Lily doesn’t miss this. She notices almost everything. And she sees how he looks at the other girl. And Tiger Lily feels as if everything he’s promised her is a lie. He promised her forever, but the look in his eyes as he looks at Wendy makes her question every word he’s ever said to her.
Tiger Lily narrows her eyes at the other girl momentarily before turning and fleeing the scene. I am quick to jump of her shoulder, my wings fluttering behind my back. I may be in love with Peter, but that doesn’t mean he has any right to break Tiger Lily’s heart. At that moment, I wish I could speak. Instead, all I can do is growl at him. I fly over to Wendy and sting her shoulder, but she quickly swats me away. I am angry, but as I fly away, I can feel both Peter’s and Wendy’s gazes on my yellow glow as I quickly dart through the air. My wings are taking me back to the village, and the one I will always watch over.

The next morning, she wakes up, rage and grace. She is graceful as any predator slinking through the shadows, chasing her prey, but there is a certain jerkiness to her motions that comes from great anger. She pulls her hair back into the messy braid that I am used to, and sets out to do her daily chores of looking after her husband-to-be, Giant.
I follow her throughout that day, watching her. I see her stop and exchange a few words with Moon Eye and Pine Sap.
And then there is Aunt Fire. She beats Tiger Lily with the broom for not completing the chores fast enough, but Tiger Lily doesn’t say anything. When it’s over, she leaves and heads down to the river to wash.
Once that is over, she is mostly free to do whatever she wishes. Most days, she would go and visit the lost boys, but not today. She is furious with Peter Pan. I know understand why everyone says Peter is the worst monster in all of Neverland; he says things, promises you forever, but then takes it back without so much as blinking an eye.
This day, she goes to the clay hut Pine Sap is building. He isn’t there, and she is left alone there; no one else in the village knows about Pine Sap’s hut, hidden away in the forest beside the river. I don’t count much as company; I can’t speak, and Tiger Lily rarely offers much conversation.
Spending a while at this incomplete clay shelter, Tiger Lily goes down to the river, and she stands in it, the water swirling around her feet. This is the same water that claimed Tik Tok’s life as its own, and Tiger Lily is covered in a cloud of grief. Maybe Pine Sap knows this, maybe he doesn’t, but at that moment, he appears from behind the trees. A twig snaps beneath his foot, and Tiger Lily whips around, her body tense. She relaxes as she recognizes the hazel eyes of her best friend, and he approaches her.
Tiger Lily begins to tell him everything. She tells him of secret meetings with Peter Pan. She tells him how she doesn’t want to marry Giant, but she can’t ignore Tik Tok’s promise. She even begins to tell him how he’s lucky to have Moon Eye. Her closest friends are perfect for each other, and they can’t even see it.
Pine Sap stops her at that. He is saddened by Tiger Lily’s words, and she senses this. She asks him what’s wrong.
So he tells her. “I’m in love with you, Tiger Lily,” he says.
And Tiger Lily can’t speak. She’s in love with Peter Pan. She turns and runs once more.
Tiger Lily is informed, by way of mermaid, that there is a pirate who would rather like to kill Peter Pan. Tiger Lily agrees to help the man, not knowing he wants her dead as well.
She helps them with their plan by being the decoy. Tiger Lily is set up to look as if she’s trapped on a rock in the ocean, tied up by the pirates. Peter can’t swim. They’re setting him up to drown.
I hear every detail of the plan. The pirates are going to leave a boat on the shore that Peter will use to get out to the island, and then Tiger Lily will pull the boat back to shore when she swims back. The pirates know nothing of Wendy, but Tiger Lily knows the Englander never leaves Peter Pan’s side, so she’ll be an…unfortunate….side effect.
When the day comes, I try warning Peter and Wendy away. I bite them, scratch them, do everything in my power to get them to not go out to the rock. But I can’t speak. I can’t let them know what I’m trying to do. They keep brushing me away.
And I am left to watch as the plan flows freely from step to step, a problem never arising. Peter and Wendy are stranded out on the rock, and Tiger Lily is standing on the beach, water streaming out of her hair, running down her clothes and skin to drip onto the sand. Peter can clearly see her, and he shouts for her to help him and Wendy. She stands there, her eyes coldly watching as the tide rises, slowly forcing the two closer together on the already small rock. Water creeps over the edge, making the smooth surface slippery.
I would do something to help, but there’s nothing I can do. Finally, Tiger Lily seems to realize something and she begins pushing the canoe back out into the water. She lets it touch the rock before she is rapidly swimming back. Once she’s standing, she is darting away through the forest.
Everything worked out in the end. Giant mysteriously died only two weeks after his and Tiger Lily’s wedding. Peter, Wendy, and all the lost boys left Neverland to live in London. Pine Sap and Tiger Lily eventually got married. And Moon Eye became shaman of the Sky Eaters, in place of the late Tik Tok.
I guess, Tiger Lily just woke up one day and realized that Peter was never fully there for her like Pine Sap always had been, and will be forever. She woke up and saw everything in crystalline perfection. Everything clear to her. Who she truly loved.
The single pearl necklace Philip gave to her has long since been lost. She dropped it in the river during her mourning. She watched the river's current sweep it downstream, never to be seen from again.
All of this, and so much more, I’ve seen. When one can’t talk, they become an observer. A fairy isn’t big enough to stop someone. A fairy can’t speak. So a fairy observes. And they see much more than the rest of the world. They see the unspoken words between two people. They see people’s thoughts. Fairies see nearly everything, and I’ve watched Tiger Lily grow up. I know nearly everything there is to know about this girl.
