(Or, Destiel High School Alternate Universe. I'll just call it DHSAU. )
Again, sorry, Lexi. XD I'm on an AU fluff binge. I'm feeling some angst coming on, though, so this might all come crashing down. XD
Anyway...wow, I should be studying...
Cas loved finals. He loved any excuse to study without annoying interruptions or restrictions.
Castiel sat at the foot of his bed. His geometry textbook was propped against the railing and papers were strewn about in a pattern only he could follow. One hand followed the text with a finger while the other scribbled furiously on the note card given to them to use on the exam.
Cas' phone blinked bright, and he picked it up distractedly.
“Hmmm...yeah, hello?”
“Studying for finals?” Of course it was him. Only Dean would call the night before the biggest tests of the year.
“Yeah.”
“Having fun?”
“...”
“...”
“...Well-”
“Oh god.”
“What?”
“You're enjoying yourself?”
Cas sputtered. “Oh, yeah, sure, time of my life. Come on, Dean. Even a bookworm like me gets sick of this.” It came out harsher than he wanted, but his point still came across.
“...You're not enjoying yourself?”
Cas sighed and let his fury bubble down. “Over three hours of geometry wears you down.”
“THREE HOU-I have to go.”
Cas began to talk without thinking about what he was saying, but the buzz of the dial tone made him stop. He sighed and looked back at the paper. The equation he was working on glowed only faintly in his mind. He sighed and fell back onto the bed. Sometimes, he almost thought it'd be easier to take a hundred exams than be in love.
.:.
He was interrupted yet again with the doorbell. He cast his pencil aside and trotted down to open the door, his brain already whirring to think of an excuse greater than reviewing.
When he opened the door, Dean smiled cheekily and flung his hands over his head. “Study break!”
“You came all the way over here to tell me to take a study break?”
“No, I came over here to help you take one.”
Cas stepped aside and opened the door farther. Dean glowed back as he walked in and ran up the stairs. “Why are you here, really?” Cas called back at him, but he was already upstairs.
By the time he got to his room, Dean had already cleared a spot on the bed next to him. Cas sat down next to him, giving him his best expression of annoyance and incredulity. Dean blatantly ignored the glare and put his hand on Cas' shoulder. “How long you been studying?”
“Three and a half hours, give or take.”
Dean shook his head and rested his forehead on Cas', turning his body to sit cross-legged facing his boyfriend. Cas did the same, taking caution not to break their gay-forehead-lovey bond.
“Breathe,” Dean instructed, putting his other hand on Cas' other shoulder. “I don't think you have properly for the past few hours.”
Cas closed his eyes and obliged. He breathed in the Impala off of Dean's coat. He breathed in Dean's cologne off of his hair. He breathed in the hug in the hall and the kiss under the bleachers. When he opened his eyes again, Dean's were right there to meet his. “Okay?” Dean said, only a corner of his mouth curled up into a smile.
Cas chuckled and exhaled. “Okay.”
